A steady trickle of visitors through the station's gates ensured that the Supporters' Group volunteers were kept busy selling lifeboat souvenirs, giving out carrier bags of goodies to junior lifeboat fans, and talking about the RNLIs life-saving equipment.
Burnham-On-Sea RNLI's fundraising group have also been busy in recent weeks, collecting over £900 during the recent RNLI Flag Day. They are now preparing themselves for the charitys first national Save Our Soles (SOS) Day where everyone will be encouraged to wear trainers to work or school in exchange for donating a £1 each to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).
The photo at the top of this page shows Supporters' Group members Eric Summers, Dot Hall, Mary Summers, Jendy Weekes, Roy Hall, and Alan Townsend operating the souvenir stall from under a gazebo at the station gates. On the left is young RNLI supporter Emily sitting on the station's soft-track tractor, showing off her RNLI Save Our Soles trainer shoelaces, in preparation for the upcoming 'SOS' day.
More than
50 schools and a similar number of businesses across Cornwall, Devon,
Dorset and Somerset have registered to take part in the day, which promises
to swell the RNLI coffers with much-needed cash. RELATED LINKS:
