Burnham lifeboat crews rescue capsized
dinghy at Brean

Two lifeboats from
Burnham-On-Sea were scrambled on Sunday morning, February 19th,
after a dinghy with one person onboard capsized and began sinking
at Brean.
23-year-old
Tanya Tucker from Cossington (pictured) was brought back to shore
uninjured by the RNLI crew, who also retrieved her dinghy.
The
craft, a fifteen foot Lazer, had
capsized and rigging had also been damaged, making it impossible
for her to
right and sail back to shore.
Tanya
told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "The clip at the end of the boom
snapped and the whole dinghy capsized. I went under the water
for a few seconds and couldn't upright the boat. Without the boom
I couldn't right the craft again."
"Fortunately,
my husband was watching from the shore and called 999 to alert
the Coastguard. I was relieved to see the RNLI lifeboats - they
did a great job."
The
Lifeboats Press Officer added: "She seemed to be properly
equipped, and none the worse for her experience. With the receding
tide, she was in a hazardous situation, and our crewmembers were
only too pleased to help."
The
crew of the Staines Whitfield lifeboat, who were already at sea
exercising, rushed to the aid of the sailor, while the Global
Marine D-Class lifeboat was launched to provide valuable back-up.
The
rescue was overseen by Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards, who were on
scene at Brean during the incident.
