Double
rescue for Burnham-On-Sea's RNLI lifeboat crew

Burnham-On-Sea's
Staines Whitfield lifeboat helped a jet skier in difficulty and
towed a yacht to safety during two separate rescues on Sunday
morning, May 20th.
The
Atlantic 75 lifeboat, pictured, was out on training at the time
and was redirected to a jet ski 300 yards off Burnham beach which
had broken down at around 9.30am. The crew towed it back to the
safety of Burnham's jetty.
Later
in their training session - and around 30 minutes later at around
10am - the lifeboat was observing a twin masted 30ft yacht, called
Heather Belle, which was en-route from the River Axe
to Minehead, when its main mast collapsed. This left the craft
disabled about a quarter of a mile North from Brean Down.
The lifeboat crew immediately offered their help, which was accepted,
and the craft towed it back to the safety of the River Axe.
Lifeboat
Helmsman Glenn Cutter told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "The owner
was an experienced sailor who suffered an unfortunate accident.
The RNLI would rather help at the earliest opportunity than wait
until a situation becomes life-threatening."
These
latest incidents mean Burnham-On-Sea RNLI has been called out
four times during the last week.
