Yacht towed to harbour by lifeboats
after suffering power failure

Burnham's
lifeboats were called out after a 32ft motor yacht got into difficulties
in the Bristol Channel on Saturday evening (July 22nd) when both
its engines failed.
The
cruiser - called Offshore Asset - suffered complete power failure
and began drifting towards the shore.
Coastguards
called out Burnham-On-Sea's
two RNLI lifeboats - the Staines Whitfield Atlantic 75 and Global
Marine D-Class - at 6.22pm.
Once
on scene, a crew member from the Staines Whitfield was sent onboard
the yacht to check its crew of two and to help set the yacht in
tow.
It
had been planned to tow the yacht to Watchet but given the state
of the tide and lack of water in the harbour, a further lifeboat
was called from Barry to take the crippled yacht to the safety
of the Welsh harbour instead.
Both
Burnham's lifeboats were back on shore at the jetty by 8.30pm,
the D class having returned several minutes earlier after being
stood down by Coastguards.
It
was apparently the yacht owner's first trip out onto the water,
having only owned the vessel for three months.
