Stranded
pair rescued from Brean Down rocks by Burnham lifeboat

A
mother and son stranded on rocks at Brean Down were dramatically
rescued by a Burnham-On-Sea lifeboat crew on Tuesday, October
23rd.
The
Staines Whitfield RNLI lifeboat was launched at 4.57pm after the
pair got into difficulty while attempting to walk around the base
of the Down.
Our
exclusive photos show the rescue underway as the lifeboat retrieved
the stricken pair from the rocks.
Tracy
Gibbs, 33, and son David, 13, from Bedworth near Coventry, said
they were both very relieved to be back on the shore.
Tracy
told Burnham-On-Sea.com how the drama unfolded: "We were
just clambering around on the rocks at the base of the Down when
the tide seemed to come in far quicker than expected."
"Within
a few minutes, we were trapped and I contacted my mum on a mobile
phone. She alerted the Brean beach warden, who contacted Coastguards."
The
Burnham lifeboat was on scene within 20 minutes and the pair were
helped onboard, where they were given lifejackets.
Burnham Coastguards were also in attendance, as pictured, to check
the two casualties over after they waded to the beach from the
lifeboat across the shallow water.
Tracy
added: "We are very grateful to the lifeboat crew and Coastguards
for their swift help."
