Both lifeboats called out after
man threatens 'suicide' in Bridgwater Bay
Both
of Burnham-On-Sea's lifeboats were called out by Coastguards in
the early hours of Tuesday August 24th after a man entered Bridgwater
Bay and was reported by police to have threatened to commit suicide.
A
police spokesman at the scene said the 20-year-old male was shoulder-deep
in sea water at the end of Burnham-On-Sea's jetty. The spokesman
added that the man had called 999 on a mobile phone and had threatened
to commit suicide.
Both
the Staines Whitfield (pictured) and D-Class lifeboats from Burnham-On-Sea
RNLI were called out at 00:23 hours, but were stood down at the
top of the slipway after police coaxed the man out of the water.
An
ambulance was waiting on the slipway and took the man to Weston-super-Mare
General Hospital.
Both
lifeboats returned to the RNLI Lifeboat Station in Pier Street
at approximately 01:00 hours.
