Dogs rescued from Bridgwater Bay
Burnham-On-Sea's
D-Class lifeboat was called out on two successive days to rescue
dogs in Bridgwater Bay amid concerns that their owners would enter
the fast-flowing water to rescue their pets.
On
Friday September 3 the lifeboat was called out at 10:00am after
the coastguard was alerted by Burnham's Beach Warden that a dog
was swimming almost half a mile out in Bridgwater Bay.
Soon
after reaching the slipway, the craft was stood down when the
animal was coaxed back to the shore.
On
the following day, Saturday September 4, the D-class lifeboat
was again called out - this time just after 11:00am - when it
was launched into Bridgwater Bay to try and help the animal.
Just
before reaching the incident scene near Burnham-On-Sea's beach
lighthouse, the dog came ashore and the lifeboat was stood down.
On
both occasions the lifeboat was quickly returned to the RNLI station
so that it was ready for any further launches.
