Staines Whitfield launched to investigate
fishing boat 'in distress'
The
Burnham-On-Sea lifeboat was called out at 11:00am by Coastguards
after a phone call from a member of the public reported that a
fishing boat was in distress off the town's beach.
Burnham
Coastguards
were quickly on the scene and spotted the small fishing boat with
no apparent signs of life.
They
called on the RNLI to investigate and the Staines Whitfield lifeboat
was quickly launched.
On
reaching the craft, crew
members found the boats crew to be quietly fishing. After
a thorough search of the immediate area, the lifeboat returned
to the beach.
Lifeboat
press Officer Mike Lang said: "On this occasion there was
apparently nobody in trouble. However, it is better to ring the
Coastguard to allow them to investigate than risk a fatality by
doing nothing."
