Lifeboat Called to Missing Person
off Brean Down
Burnham-On-Sea
RNLI received a call from Swansea Coastguard at 15:06 on Sunday
May 16, 2004 to help in the search for a person reported to be
missing at Brean Down.
Burnham's
'D-Class' lifeboat was launched shortly afterwards with a crew
of three onboard (pictured), led by helmsman Nick Prout.
The
crew headed to Brean Down and conducted a thorough search of the
shoreline on both sides of the Down.
They
also searched the River Axe estuary as far inland as the sailing
club, and then repeated the search of the Down - but no-one was
found. Police from Somerset Constabulary were also involved in
the search.
Yacht
helped to deeper waters
As
the crew returned back to the slipway at Burnham, they spotted
a yacht encountering difficulties just off Burnham Pier.
The
yacht, called the Trio, had run aground and was helped back to
deeper waters in Bridgwater Bay.
