Burnham Lifeboat launched
after man becomes trapped in mud at Stert
Burnham-On-Seas
Staines Whitfield lifeboat was launched on Saturday March 26 to
help in the rescue of a person trapped in mud at Stert Island.
Stert
is on the opposite bank of the River Parret (to the South West
of Burnham-On-Sea).
The
Atlantic 75 was called out at 17:58 after the alarm was raised
by Avon and Somerset Constabulary reporting that a man was stuck
up to his waist in thick mud at Stert Beach.
The
Coastguard requested the launch of the hovercraft and a lifeboat
from Burnham, along with a rescue team from the Watchet Coastguard.
The
casualty was successfully extracted from the mud by the police
rescue team and taken by ambulance to hospital.
RNLI
Lifeboat Press Officer Mike Lang said: "This is a good example
of how all rescue services can work together as a team when called
to do so by Swansea Coastguard Control."
The
Burnham lifeboat was stood down at 18:05.
