RNLI help police in search for
missing woman
At
the request of Swansea Coastguard control, both the Burnham-on-Sea
D-Class lifeboat and Staines Whitfield, an Atlantic 75 class lifeboat,
were launched at 1410 hrs and 1420 hrs respectively, on June 18th,
2004.
They were asked to assist coastguard officers in the search of
coastal areas of Burnham-On-Sea for a missing woman.
As
usual in lifeboat launches, two maroons were fired at 1415 hrs.
The crew of the D-type lifeboat (pictured here) conducted a search
from Burnham-On-Sea Jetty, to the East bank of the River Parrett,
to about a quarter of a mile past the lower light, and then retraced
their course to examine the lower reaches of the river Brue, before
returning to the beach for recovery at around 1600 hrs.
The
Staines Whitfield crew concentrated their search to the beach
between Burnham-on-Sea and Brean Down (Both the North and South
sides), before returning to the beach adjacent to Burnham-on-Sea
jetty for recovery at approximately 1610 hrs. Both searches were
unproductive.
The
wind speed was locally estimated force 4-5.
