Lifeboats education officer visits local schools
Burnham-On-Sea
Lifeboat Education Officer Tony Deahl has been visiting classrooms
across the area to help schoolchildren learn more about the work
of the RNLI.
Visits
have been made to Burnham Infants School Playgroup and to
Penrose Special School in Bridgwater - in addition to East Huntspill,
Beechfield and St John's School in Highbridge.
Some
of the pupils at Penrose School put on a play for the rest of
the school to show the work of the RNLI in saving lives at sea.
Many of the school visits will be followed up by trips to Burnhams
Lifeboat Station.
Tony
Deahl said: "I had an amazing week. All the children were
so interested and enthusiastic. They enjoyed getting dressed up
themselves or watching their teachers put on drysuits, helmets
etc."
"The
teachers were all great sports and entered into the spirit of
the day. Other schools and youth groups from Bridgwater to Weston-super
Mare have booked talks and visits to the Lifeboat station in the
near future."
Burnham
Lifeboat Press Officer Mike Lang said: "They sound like they
enjoyed themselves taking part in this important event. The support
is very welcome. SOS day reminds us of the wonderful rescue work
carried out by our volunteer lifeboat crews."
