Burnham-On-Sea shop re-opens after winter break

The Burnham-On-Sea RNLI shop is re-opening for business on Saturday 16th February following its winter break and is appealing for new volunteers to help run it.

The shop, which is located in the lifeboat station compound at the rear of Somerfield Supermarket in Pier Street, sells a wide range of lifeboat collectables and merchandise, from teddy bears and mugs to caps and shirts.

Fundraisers and shop volunteers are currently busy preparing for the re-opening and met up at Burnham Sailing Club last week to discuss the plans. RNLI station Chairman Graham Wills addressed the group, along with by Fundraising Treasurer Jan Pearce and Souvenir Secretary Mary Summers.

Graham said: "We are hoping for more fundraising volunteers to help spread the load, although we are aware there is a lot of competition amongst local volunteer groups. The lifeboat station is a huge family, with boat and shore crew, shop and fundraising volunteers, and education helpers."

Jan reinforced Graham's comments and added that there had been a fundraising group in the town for many years.

Mary Summers said: "The RNLI shop is a nice place to work, and even a couple of hours voluntary work per week would be most welcome. Additionally, during the summer months, the station will be open on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays."
