New Supporters' Group formed at Burnham RNLI

20 people attended the kick-off meetingA brand new supporters' group for Burnham-On-Sea RNLI has been formed following a successful appeal for helpers.

More than 20 people attended a meeting at the town's lifeboat station on Wednesday evening (August 11th) to hear how they can assist in opening up the station to visitors and help with promotional activities.

A smaller group of supporters stepped forward to form the core of the new group - Gaye Watts, Catriona Crook and Jendy Weekes (pictured below) who will be working with Geoff Gates, chairman of the existing Burnham RNLI fundraising group.

Gaye Watts, Catriona Crook and Jendy WeekesMartin Cox, Burnham Lifeboat Operations Manager, said: "This has been a very encouraging evening. We have attracted a good cross section of people from the area who are all enthusiastic to get the new group started. They are already talking about opening the Lifeboat Station during the August Bank Holiday weekend."

Anyone wishing to join the new Supporters' Group can do so via Burnham-On-Sea RNLI's Web site using the online application form at http://www.burnham-on-sea.com/rnli/supporters

Catriona Crook and Jendy Weekes with Geoff GatesWhile the Supporters' Group has no hands-on responsibility for either life-saving or fund-raising it is invaluable in helping ease the pressure on current volunteers by assisting with arranged events.

Members of the Supporters' Group can do as little or as much as they want, and are people with an interest in the RNLI and its activities who will have the knowledge to speak up for the lifeboat service in the community.
