Cyclist
calls in at Burnham-On-Sea RNLI station on round-Britain tour
A
36-year-old postman who is peddling his way around the British
Isles, visiting every RNLI station in the country, called in at
Burnham-On-Sea this week.
Will
Blight left Swanage on April 8th and is now two thirds of the
way to completing his target of visiting all 198 lifeboat stations.
With
4,911 miles and thirty ferry trips covered already, and nearly
a thousand miles to go, towing his 10 stone trailer behind him
is no mean feat.
Dropping
in at Burnham on Wednesday, he said the town was his 168th station
visited in the last six months.
He
has no support vehicle so everything he needs is carried with
him - and that includes his tent, food and spare clothes.
During
his tour, he has experienced almost every weather condition from
searing heat in July to thunderstorms and gale force winds during
his ride through the Lake District.
Will
told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "It's been very wearing on my legs
as I am riding about 30 miles a day, but I'm a keen cyclist and
have done a lot of training for this. I am fully prepared and
am really enjoying it."
"I
have experienced exceptional hospitality along the way, but am
keen to reach the final stage of my trip to Swanage RNLI station.
Will
is raising money for RNLI crew training. His corporate sponsors,
Yacht Havens Ltd, have promised £1,000 every time he visits
each of their six yards. The rest of the expected £15,000
sponsorship comes from the numerous sponsorship forms that have
been filled in. Further details of his trip can be obtained by
visiting his website, www.spoke2soon.co.uk.
Will
is pictured outside Burnham-On-Sea RNLI's shop, where Supporters
Group Chairman Jendy Weekes replaced his weathered RNLI flag,
which is proudly displayed on his bike.
