Lifeboat
crew practises launch from Burnham-On-Sea Yacht Club
Burnham-On-Sea
RNLI launched its Atlantic 75 lifeboat from the town's Yacht Club
this week as part of an exercise to practice launching the craft
away from the town's main slipway.
The
Staines Whitfield lifeboat usually enters Bridgwater Bay from
Burnham's jetty but this location could become blocked and put
of action during very rough weather, so an alternative launch
location is required.
Therefore,
on Wednesday evening, the lifeboat was taken to the southern end
of the town and launched from a small strip of beach adjacent
to Burnham-On-Sea Yacht Club with a crew of four onboard.
An
RNLI spokesman said the
exercise had been very successful. He added: "It helped both
the crew and shore helpers get used to launching the lifeboat
from a different location which could prove invaluable in the
future."
