Budding young gardeners win prizes at Sanders
Garden World

Four
budding young gardeners from Burnham-On-Sea and the surrounding
area have won prizes after entering a plant growing competition
organised by staff at Sanders Garden World.
The
youngsters all participated in the competition to grow the largest
marrow or sunflower plant and attended a prize-giving ceremony
at the garden centre on Saturday, September 24.
Peter
Burks, Managing Director of Sanders Garden World, said: "I
was very impressed by the high standard of entries we received.
It is good to see youngsters getting involved and learning about
gardening from an early age."
Harry
Williams from Burnham-On-Sea won the sunflower competition in
the six to 12 years age category. The seven-year-old, who attends
St. Josephs School, received a £10 voucher and a certificate
at the prize giving ceremony.
Oliver
Talbot, aged four, also from Burnham, was a runner up in the marrow
competition. He received a £5 garden centre voucher and
a certificate.
Alexender
Elton from Brent Knoll won the marrow growing competition in his
age category. The three-year-old received a £10 Sanders
Garden World voucher and a certificate for his winning vegetable.
Cameron
Derrick from Highbridge won the sunflower competition in his age
category. The five-year-old, who attends Beachfields Infants School,
received a £10 garden centre voucher and a certificate for
growing his tall plant.
The
competition was devised by staff at the Brent Knoll garden centre
and is part of its Grow with Us campaign, which was
launched three years ago to encourage children to take an active
interest in gardening.
There
were two age categories in the competition, five and under and
six to 12 years. The first prize in each age group was a £10
Sanders Garden World gift voucher and two runner up prizes of
a £5 gift voucher were also up for grabs.
