£500,000 revamp for Burnham-On-Sea
Somerfield store is complete
More
than £500,000 has been spent on revamping Somerfield's store
in Burnham-On-Sea and creating 10 new jobs, the supermarket chain
announced this week.
The
Pier Street store has just completed work to refit the premises
with a new bakery, deli, updated product line and a news and home
entertainment department. Following customer feedback about the
old cigarette kiosk being too close to the door, it has been re-positioned
further inside the store.
Store
manager Terry Bennett said: "We're
really pleased with the new-look store and I'm confident that
our customers will be delighted with the improvements."
The
new-look store will officially be opened on Wednesday, November
16, by one of its former staff who has just retired.
 After
38 years of looking after customers, Jenny Wynn will have the
chance to be pampered herself when she becomes a VIP for the day.
Jenny,
60, has recently retired from her job in Somerfield and Gateway,
where she had worked since 1967.
As
a thank you for her years of loyalty to the store, she has been
invited back to cut the ribbon and relaunch the store.
Jenny
will be driven to the door in the store's brand new home delivery
van and after cutting the ribbon and declaring the store open,
she will be presented with presents, including champagne and flowers,
by the store manager.
"We're
looking forward to having Jenny back at the store for the day
so we can thank her for all her years of service," said Mr
Bennett.
Somerfield
has more than 900 stores nationwide and plans to refurbish more
than 100 of these in the next 12 months as part of a nationwide
£155 million investment.
