Burnham-On-Sea swimming pool receives top
leisure industry award

Burnham-On-Sea
swimming pool has received a top leisure facility award, just
days after
bosses at the Berrow Road facility began a search for new owners
to take it on.
In
a statement, Sedgemoor District Council said: "Following
a demanding inspection on the 10th and 11th of January, Burnham
Pool has been awarded Quest accreditation for the first time.
With
a required pass mark of 60%, Burnham Pool gained a score of 69%
- the highest score given to a leisure facility in Sedgemoor."
The
award is likely to strengthen Sedgemoor
District Council's bid to find new owners for the
30-year-old facility.
"During
the two-day inspection, the external assessor checked and inspected
just about every system, file and procedure on site and in use
at the pool," added the spokeswoman.
"The
award is a testament to the hard work put in over many months
by Duty Manager Jeff Smith and the team at the pool."
Quest
is a UK scheme for the sports and leisure industry, and its plaudits
are given to organisations who show high service standards and
a commitment towards continuous improvement.
Burnham
pool joins Chilton Trinity and King Alfred Sports Centres as Quest-accredited
facilities. Splash is due to be assessed in March 2006.
The
future of the pool has been hanging in the balance for several
months. Just
last week, the swimming pool began advertising in the local and
lesiure industry press for a new owner.
