Nominations open for vacant Burnham and
Highbridge town council seat
Nominations
are now being accepted for the vacant seat on Burnham and Highbridge
town council, following the resignation of Cllr Joyce Smith.
Nomination
papers can be obtained from the offices of the Returning Officer
at Bridgwater House, King Square, Bridgwater or from Eileen Shaw,
Town Clerk at The Old Courthouse, Jaycroft Road, Burnham-On-Sea.
The
clerk or returning officer will, at the request of any elector
for the Town, prepare a nomination paper for signature.
Nomination
papers must be delivered to the Returning Officer, Bridgwater
House, King Square, Bridgwater, Somerset, TA6 3AR, on Monday to
Thursday 9am to 5pm and Friday 9am to 4pm, but not later than
mid-day on Friday 11th November 2005.
If
the election is contested, a poll will take place on Thursday
8th December 2005. Electors and their proxies should take note
that applications to vote by post or by proxy must reach the Electoral
Registration Officer by 5pm on Novenmber 30th if they are to be
effective for this election.
The
news comes after Liberal Democrat Joyce Smith, pictured, the ward
councillor for Burnham East, resigned to spend more time with
her family.
Fellow
Liberal Democrat councillor Cllr Hilary Rose said that Mrs Smith
had decided to go due for family reasons and had felt she could
no longer give enough time to fully represent constituents in
the ward.
