Burnham-On-Sea Triathlon
Burnham-On-Sea Triathlon 2006 was held on Sunday June 11th 2006. The ever-popular event saw over 300 competitors tackle a tough course including 20 lengths of Burnham Pool, a 20km cycle, and a 5km beach run. The cycling course takes them from Burnham pool to Lympsham via Love Lane, past the Tesco supermarket, over the railway bridge at Edithmead, to the M5 motorway roundabout. Here, they snake around to the left towards Weston-Super-Mare along the A38/A370 past East Brent. They cycle left off the A370 at Lympsham, then cycle across the moors, along Red Road to Berrow Road, and then come back to Burnham-On-Sea swimming pool. Once completed, the competitors then face a 5km beach run which takes them from Burnham-On-Sea to Berrow. They run over the sand dunes to the Burnham and Berrow golf course, before heading back onto the beach for the final run-in to the finish on Burnham Beach, near St Andrew's Church. The Burnham On Sea triathlon is a very flat course but it's still regarded as a tough one by those competing in it. The leaders usually complete it in just under an hour. For

Entries are closed for the 2004 event. Entries usually cost £20
(£19.50 for BTA members) and those wishing to apply for places
in the next event should contact King Alfreds Sports Centre in late
February 2005.
Over 330 entrants took part in the 2004 Burnham-On-Sea Triathlon on Sunday June 13. Now in its 18th year, the event includes 20 lengths of Burnham Pool, a 20km cycle ride and a 5km beach run. The men's event was won by Kit Stokes (Weston-super-Mare) in a superb time of 1:00:07. Jon Rawlings (SBR) was second in 1:00:47. Third place went to Martin Rogers (East Huntspill) in a time of 1:03:08. The ladies event was won by Helen Parkinson (Exeter) in a time of 1:08:58. Jane Fox (Chippenham) was second in 1:09:50. Third place went to Jane Harding (Bristol) in a time of 1:10:51. The men's categories were won by Ross MacDonald (Team Bath), Lionel Ricard (Filton), Matthew Newman (Bristol), Jason Emmett (SBR), Eric The Eel Downey (Kingswood), Duncan Richards (Somerset RC), Martin Smith (Royal Navy), Allan matthews (Exeter), David Champion (Pack of Three), Chris Harrison (Glos), Raymond Chell (Mendip). First male local was Jason Emmett, second was Neil Hudghton, third was Jeff Bailey. The first male local vet was Bill Gough. The women's categories were won by Fiona Spotswood (Somerset RC), Abigail White (Tri Harder), Catherine Powie (Exeter), Mandy Spedding (Hogweed), Yvonne Cox (Kingswood), Carole Smith (Royal Navy), Allison Lucas (Kingswood), Carol Parr (Tri Harder). First female local was Kelly Lovell, second was Sabrina Johnson and third was Lisa Howell. The first female local vet was Jean Bailey.
