Rain
fails to dampen spirits at Burnham-On-Sea Twist On The Beach More

Aproximately 600 people flocked to Burnham beach to join in the world record attempt next to the pier - but heavy rain showers earlier in the day clearly hit the numbers. Organiser Christine Piper of Somerset Breakthrough told Burnham-On-Sea.com: The weather was against us this year and kept many people away, but it was still great to get this number out today. Early estimates suggest we had about half the number of two years ago - but we're delighted to have raised a lot of money for Somerset Breakthrough. It's been a great afternoon. "
The Orchard FM roadshow was also in attendance to provide the all-important music.
The first Lets Twist Again event, held on the seafront in August 2002, attracted a record 1,150 people. Christine added: "The Somerset group love to come up with different and unique angles for fundraising and I believe this has to be one of our best. Over 40,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year and 1,000 die each month so last year we launched a campaign to raise £1 for every women in Somerset to go towards Breakthrough Breast Cancer and the four breast cancer units in Somerset Taunton, Yeovil, Bath and Weston Super Mare.
