Mayor officially opens Burnham-On-Sea's
refurbished
Yacht Club

Burnham-On-Sea's
newly refurbished Yacht Club will be officially opened by the
town's mayor this weekend.
The
club's building at the southern end of The Esplanade has had £49,000
of improvements made to it during the last few months.
Yacht
Club President Tony Winterburn (pictured) told Burnham-On-Sea.com:
"The old building had been untouched for 30 years and was
definitely showing its age."
"So
we knocked down the front of the building, extended the sides,
and added a new conservatory frontage. New kitchen and bar areas
have also been added - and the
work has increased the building's overall size by a third."
The
building will be officially opened on Sunday June 19 by Burnham-On-Sea
Mayor Eric Gill in front of an audience of invited guests including
club members, local councillors, and representatives from the
RNLI, Coastguard and BARB hovercraft.
It
will be followed by the club's annual Queen's Cup yachting competition
in Bridgwater Bay where more than 12 yachts will battle it out.
Funding
for the building's refurbishment has come from club funds, donations
by the club's 140 members, and a £3,500 grant from the district
council.
