BIRST (Brain Injury Rehabilitation)
BIRST (Brain Injury Rehabilitation Support Therapy) is a rural enterprise, set up to assist with personal development following a brain injury. It is based on a private seven acre site near to Highbridge in Somerset where there are a variety of ways in which support is offered.
An individual program for personal rehabilitation and development can help those with a brain injury as well as the families and carers involved. The programs BIRST offers are aimed to discover a persons hidden potential. Discovering this hidden potential can be extremely beneficial and have life changing effects. Each situation is different so the amount of help needed varies. BIRST can provide a wide range of services to provide this help.
As well a providing emotional support they can help people regain independence, improve life skills, providing strategies to deal with problems, developing social networks
initiate new interests, modify behavior, improve self esteem, raise awareness to the effects of their injury.
As part of the immediate and ongoing support and therapy BIRST can help with access to other agencies, long-term monitoring and maintenance, education and training, identify appropriate opportunities, arrange access to colleges etc.
BIRST also has many onsite workshops delivering hard skills. We have a number of staff working to provide practical skills within our workshops and land based skills.
There is fantastic wheel chair accessible log cabin accommodation available at Wall Eden Farm
Support can be offered in a number of ways: with first hand experience of brain injury BIRST helps people feel less isolated, sharing knowledge and personal experiences.
