A fluffy new face has captured hearts at Secret World Wildlife Rescue near Burnham-On-Sea — a juvenile little owl has been rescued after being found alone in the sweltering summer heat.
The young owl was spotted by a vigilant member of the public who noticed it sitting by itself with no sign of nearby adults.
Concerned for its safety, they kept watch while one of Secret World’s dedicated volunteer drivers rushed to the scene to collect the vulnerable bird.
“It was bright and lively on arrival, which is always a good sign,” says a spokesperson from the charity’s Wildlife Care Team.
The owl has since been started on fluids and a nutritious diet to help it regain strength. It will remain in care until it’s strong enough to fly and feed independently — at which point it will be released back into the wild.
“This young Little Owl was spotted alone in this intense heat with no other owls nearby. Thankfully, a kind member of the public kept a close eye on it while one of our volunteer drivers rushed to the scene to rescue it.”
“After a full health check here at Secret World, we’re relieved to report no injuries were found. The owl was bright and lively on arrival, always a good sign!”
“Thank you to everyone who helps us give these beautiful creatures a second chance.”
Secret World Wildlife Rescue, located just outside East Huntspill, continues to provide care for injured and orphaned wildlife across Somerset.
