Air ambulance lands on Burnham-On-Sea beach to help patient in medical emergency

-

An air ambulance landed on Burnham-On-Sea beach on Wednesday evening (April 1st) to help a patient during a medical emergency.

The yellow Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance touched down on the sand next to Burnham’s jetty shortly before 7pm.

The helicopter remained on the beach for just a couple of minutes while several paramedics onboard left to help the patient nearby.

With the incoming tide inching closer, the aircraft took off and relocated to the Cassis Close playing fields, landing besides the BAY Centre, to continue supporting land ambulance crews.

Several ambulances were also called to the incident and a patient was treated with a suspected cardiac arrest and taken to hospital.

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 5.32pm on Wednesday 1st April to an incident in Burnham-On-Sea. We sent three double-crewed land ambulances, and an air ambulance to the scene. We conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Musgrove Park Hospital.”

The Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance regularly supports emergency incidents across the region, with beach landings occasionally required when a prompt response is needed and access is limited.
