Highbridge Aldi store proposals ‘welcomed’ by residents in survey

-

Supermarket giant Aldi says its plans to open a huge new store on Highbridge’s Isleport Business Park are being welcomed by local residents.

As first reported here earlier this month, Aldi hopes to build a new store off Bennetts Road, creating 40 jobs.

Before submitting its planning application to Sedgemoor District Council, the retailer is encouraging local people to let it know their views on the proposals – and a feedback form has been distributed to almost 3,000 local homes.

An Aldi spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week: “The initial response to the leaflet has been even better than expected, with almost everyone saying they would welcome the store.”

“Many of the comments received highlight that local people would like more shopping choice and as many people currently travel to Aldi stores in Weston-Super-Mare or Bridgwater, having an Aldi closer to home would save them time and money”.

Anyone who requires a copy of the leaflet or further information can email an Aldi via aldihighbridge@planningpotential.co.uk

The proposed store would have a sales area of 1,254 square metres and 102 car parking spaces, including spaces for customers with special needs.

Aldi expects to submit a planning application to the council in December, a decision on the application would then be expected in spring next year.

Town councillors and Burnham and Highbridge Chambers of Trade are currently awaiting the company’s seperate retail impact assessment study to analyse what impact the new store would have on local businesses.
