A villager near Burnham-On-Sea has expressed her ‘disgust’ at large amounts of rotting fruit and vegetables being dumped alongside country roads in the Burnham-On-Sea area during recent weeks.

Speaking to Burnham-On-Sea.com, Sally Flack says: “This stuff is being dumped regularly by the side of roads stretching from Brent Knoll, Edithmead, Mark and Burtle on a regular basis, usually on a Thursday or Friday.”

“I have heard of this happening at least five times in Yarrow Road, Yardwall Road, Harp Road, and Burnham Moor Road in recent weeks – it’s a horrible sight and it’s terrible that someone thinks it’s OK to dump fruit and veg like this, complete with the market boxes and plastic.”

Sally adds: “It could easily be recycled, this is so disrespectful of our local countryside. Members of the Parish Council have even had to retrieve the discarded waste from a rhyne.”

Mark Parish Council has reported its local fly-tipping incidents to Sedgemoor District Council’s Clean Surroundings Team.

And local councillor Bob Filmer has also reported the cases to Sedgemoor. “I’ve also had to report similar on West Road in Lympsham and others have been reported in Mark as well,” he added.
