Burnham-On-Sea war veterans and residents joined millions of people across the UK in remembering those who have died at war during a two-minute silence to mark Armistice Day on Saturday morning, November 11th.

The silence – at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month – represented the moment when all guns stopped at the end of World War I.

The gathering of over 100 people, which included Burnham and Highbridge Mayor Eric Gill and members of the town’s British Legion, assembled in the town’s High Street. Traffic was briefly stopped as those present took the opportunity to reflect in silence.

Remembrance day will be marked in the town on Sunday with a march starting at 11am from Oxford Street car park, which will head to the war memorial in Love Lane and be followed by a service in St Andrew’s Church.
