Busy Burnham-On-Sea road junction to close for seven months

-

Motorists travelling through Highbridge are being warned to expect delays for several months as work gets underway on building a new roundabout next to the town’s forthcoming Asda superstore.

Warning signs have appeared in the area this week, as pictured above, advising motorists that access from Burnham Road onto Church Street will not be possible for seven months from January 2nd, 2007.

However, Somerset County Council’s Highways Department said on Thursday morning (December 21st) that motorists would still be able to use the spur road past St John’s Church to get from Burnham onto Church Street – as shown on the right.

Spokeswoman Jan Hookings told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The ‘leg’ of Burnham Road onto the A38 will be closed for several months while the work is carried out – but access will still be available via the War Memorial route.”

“The A38 will not close, but two-way traffic signals will be in place along it while the work is carried out. We hope that any disruption will be kept to a minimum.”
