Burnham-On-Sea residents left fuming over beach ‘barbecue vandals’

-

Angry residents in Burnham-On-Sea have been left fuming after parts of their garden fences were pulled down by partygoers to provide fuel for beach barbecues earlier this week.

This was the scene on Burnham beach near Allandale Road after leaflets, bottles and pieces of wood were left strewn over the sand following the night-time barbecues.

Local resident John Palmer told Burnham-On-Sea.com how wooden stakes had been removed from his fence for the third time this year.

“It’s almost unbelievable that people would pull apart a fence to get fuel for their barbecues, but that is exactly what happened earlier this week.”

He added: “We’ve already had to spend around a hundred pounds to keep getting the fence repaired.”

Another nearby resident, Jim Spottiswood, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It is very sad when this happens. A lot of visitors use this area to get onto the beach and this is not good for Burnham.”

“On this occasion, several fence panels and a lot of tourist leaflets have been used as fuel for a barbecue.”
