Council pledges £2,500 to help Burnham youth centre halt roof leaks

-

Burnham Area Youth Centre is to receive a further £2,500 of council funds to fix problems with rain water leaking into their building, councillors have pledged this week.

As first reported here last month, the centre’s roof windows urgently need repairs costing £7,500 to stop water entering the building.

£2,500 was earmarked by Burnham and Highbridge Town Council during a Policy and Finance Meeting on Monday (December 8th).

Last month, the centre was also pledged a further £2,500 by Sedgemoor District Council’s Grants Award Sub-Committee.

“The windows in the hall roof are leaking badly and need to be replaced. Water entering the building can cause problems,” said BAY Centre Chairman Mike Lang during Monday’s meeting. The BAY Centre also has other grants pending.

Mike said after Monday’s meeting: “Tonight’s vote is very pleasing – it gets us closer to having the work carried out, but it is still dependent on a final vote being taken at the next full town council meeting.”
