Berrow Dunes Discovery Day raises wildlife awareness

-

Wildlife enthusiasts held a ‘Dunes Discovery Day’ at Berrow Nature Reserve on Saturday (July 17th) to help raise awareness of the importance of the land.

A range of activities for all ages took place, including pond dipping, moth identification, a plant hunt, sand craft, badge making and a guided walk.

Sedgemoor District Council, in partnership with Somerset Wildlife Trust and Berrow Conservation Group, organised the event.

Mary Scott, from wildlife activities group Bugspace, who oversaw the pond dipping, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We had a busy afternoon with lots of interest. Several newts and bugs were found over the course of the day – much to the interest of our visitors.”

Berrow Dunes has one of the most diverse floras in Somerset, with at least 270 species of flowering plant being recorded.
