Man arrested after police swoop on travellers convoy in Burnham-On-Sea

Police confirmed on Monday (April 27th) that a man had been arrested following a dramatic police swoop on this convoy of travellers in Burnham-On-Sea on Friday afternoon (April 24th).

Officers halted several vehicles in Berrow Road at around 4.15pm, as pictured here, after one was stopped on suspicion of not having valid insurance.

An eyewitness near the scene told Burnham-On-Sea.com that one person had been seen running away from the scene, closely followed by officers on foot.

A man was caught by officers on the seafront, near to the Seaview Road bandstand.

A police spokeswoman told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Monday (April 27th): “A man was arrested in Berrow Road on suspicion of driving while disqualified.”

One of the travellers’ vehicles was later taken away on the back of a tow truck a few minutes later, as pictured below.

The incident led to long queues along Berrow Road near the Burnham Swim and Sports Academy. The road was not fully re-opened until after 7pm.
