Brean Rally cancelled by organisers for the first time in its 22 year history

-

This month’s Brean Rally has been cancelled for the first time in its 22 year history.

The rally has been held in the grounds of Brean Leisure Park on the last weekend of January since 1997.

But the organisers from Club RallySport West have confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com that it won’t be going ahead this year.

In a statement, the group says: “Following extensive meetings between Club Rallysport West and the Brean Leisure Park Management, a joint decision has been made not to run the Brean Stages Rally in 2019.”

“This decision has been made in order to support and retain the goodwill and friendship of the park management and staff, which we have enjoyed over the past years.”

“The rally organisers together with the management of Brean Leisure Park hope to return in 2020 on its traditional end of January date.”

Brean Rally

Organiser Rod McKenna told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week that the group “would not wish to add to anything further.”

The event is a popular part of the area’s calendar and the 2018 Brean rally attracted large crowds of spectators. Around 100 rally drivers from across the UK usually take part.

One regular spectator, Mike Smith, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s a great shame that it’s not taking place this year. I always look forward to watching it in January. Hopefully whatever issues they have will be resolved in time for the event in January 2020.”
