Brian Freestone

A Brent Knoll author is set to launch a new book this weekend, a collection of moving short stories about emotions.

Brian Freestone will formally unveil the book, called Keep The Show On The Road, at a special launch event at 135 Brent Street in Brent Knoll between 11am and 1pm this Saturday (June 1st).

Talking to Burnham-On-Sea.com, he said: “The book of short stories covers a whole range of emotions – humour, sadness, love, revenge, mystery, loneliness and guilt.”

“There are stories around travel, religious bigotry, music, computers, Brent Knoll and Asperger’s Syndrome. They are warm, moving stories with something for everyone.”

He adds: “The title of the book takes its name from the first story Keep The Show On The Road, which was the motto on the memorial of 384 Momber Group of the US 8th Air Force who flew from the airfield at Grafton Underwood, Northants to drop bombs over Germany from 1943-45.”

“During his childhood Brian saw many badly damaged B17s (Flying Fortresses) limping over the tree tops near his home as they returned from bombing raids over Germany.”

Brian’s first book, Cricket In The Shadows, was published in 1999 and was an entertaining and humorous account of 50 years of playing and enjoying local cricket. It was chosen as one of the Times newspaper’s top 20 Cricket Books of 1999.

His second book, A Mozart Jigsaw, was published in 2013 and was a collection of essays and imaginative short stories based on the life the Austrian musical genius. It was followed up by illustrated musical talks in Brent Knoll.

Brian’s new book is priced at £7 and copies will also be on sale at the Brent Knoll Village Fete on Saturday 8th June.
