A Brent Knoll nursing home has been praised for delivering warm, compassionate care after receiving an improved rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Holywell Nursing Home, now operated by Holywell Care Limited, was inspected between 18th and 26th February 2026 in what was the first assessment under its new provider.
The home achieved a ‘Good’ rating across all five key areas — safe, effective, caring, responsive and well‑led.
In June 2025, Burnham-On-Sea.com reported here that a Welsh care operator had bought the Brent Knoll nursing home after the owner of 30 years retired.
The new result marks a clear improvement from its previous inspection in 2020, when the service was rated ‘Requires Improvement’ in the ‘effective’ category under different management.
In its report, the CQC highlighted the positive experiences of residents and the dedication of staff. Inspectors noted that people “experienced warm, compassionate care,” with residents describing staff as “lovely, all excellent, a tower of strength,” and another adding, “I’m very fond of the staff.”
Staffing levels were found to be safe, and team members told inspectors they felt well supported, saying: “The team is good, the manager is very supportive.” The management team was described as visible and responsive, taking prompt action when concerns were raised.”
Residents also reported feeling safe and able to make choices about their daily lives, with one person telling inspectors: “I absolutely feel safe. I have no concerns.” The report added that staff worked effectively with external professionals, though there were some challenges in securing in‑person GP visits.
However, the CQC said further improvements are still required. Inspectors found that the environment “needed significant improvement,” and that care planning and record‑keeping were inconsistent.
The governing body noted: “The management team told us the service was not as good as they wished it to be, but they had worked very hard to make improvements in the last year. They addressed some shortfalls during the inspection and had an improvement plan in place, but governance systems were not yet fully embedded and effective.”
The provider has been urged to continue strengthening oversight to ensure improvements are identified, resolved and sustained. Holywell Care Limited says it remains committed to ongoing development and to providing a safe, supportive and caring environment for residents.
