Firefighters from Burnham-On-Sea and Bridgwater fire stations are set to take on a gruelling charity challenge this May by completing the Burnham and Highbridge 5K Parkrun while wearing full breathing apparatus.
On May 2nd, firefighters Hannah and a colleague will run the full distance aiming to complete the course without changing their BA cylinder — a demanding test of both physical endurance and controlled breathing.
A spokesperson for the crew said the challenge will be “a real test physically and mentally,” adding that the pair have been training to maintain a steady breathing rate throughout the run while carrying the weight of the equipment.
The event is being held to raise funds for The Fire Fighters Charity, which provides vital physical, mental, and social support to serving and retired fire service personnel and their families across the UK.
“Any donation, big or small, would be massively appreciated,” the team said. “The charity does incredible work supporting members of the fire service during some of the toughest moments of their lives.”
Donations can be made through the team’s JustGiving page, with all funds going directly to the charity.
The crew say they hope local residents will get behind the challenge and cheer them on during the Parkrun.
