Burnham and Highbridge MP visits town dessert factory supporting nearly 600 local jobs

-

Burnham and Highbridge MP Ashley Fox has visited Greencore in Highbridge to meet staff, tour the facilities, and discuss the future of the UK’s food manufacturing sector following the company’s recent expansion.

The visit comes after Greencore’s acquisition of Bakkavor, bringing together two major convenience‑food producers to form one of the UK’s largest food manufacturing groups.

The combined business now employs around 30,000 people nationwide and is investing heavily in UK production and supply chains.

During his tour, Mr Fox met members of the local team and saw first‑hand the work taking place at the Highbridge site, which employs around 577 people and remains one of the area’s most significant employers.

The factory produces a wide range of desserts — including cheesecakes, hot‑eating puddings, cream cakes, tarts, potted desserts and trifles — supplying major retailers across the country.

The visit provided an opportunity to discuss the importance of supporting British manufacturing, protecting jobs, and ensuring continued investment in local communities.

Ashley Fox MP said: “I was pleased to visit, meet some of the hardworking staff and see first‑hand the work they do, where I discovered that decorating cheesecakes is harder than it looks!”

“Sites like Greencore in Highbridge play a vital role in our local economy, providing hundreds of jobs and supporting families across the area.”

“With the recent acquisition by Greencore, this is an important moment for the business and for UK food manufacturing more widely. It is encouraging to see continued investment in British production, supporting supply chains and keeping food production here in the UK.”

John Bowman, General Manager at Greencore, adds: “It was a pleasure to welcome Ashley Fox to our site. We have a proud history as a major employer in Highbridge, producing great‑tasting desserts for some of the country’s biggest retailers.”

“We appreciated the opportunity to showcase our incredible team and the important role that Greencore plays in one of the UK’s largest manufacturing sectors.”

Greencore says it remains committed to investing in its Highbridge operations as the newly combined group continues to grow.
