Sixth form students from Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge at King Alfred School Academy Sixth Form have celebrated the launch of their new magazine, called ‘Spotlight’.

The magazine aims to inform Sixth Form students about various aspects of student life and also seeks to provide useful information on careers, university and apprenticeships.

The magazine is published monthly, and contains wide-ranging articles, from environmental awareness to student columns.

A number of prizes are also available through participating in cartoon caption competitions and a general knowledge quiz.

Sixth Form students are also able to design the front cover of the newsletter each month; there will l be a theme for students to base their designs on, with the best design awarded a prize.

The first winner of the “Spotlight” cover competition was Vivianna, an international student from Italy, who has joined Year 12 this year.

Editor of the newsletter, Jacob Kemp, says: “After a year of Covid restrictions, we wanted to integrate the Sixth Form again, and “Spotlight” is a fantastic resource for this. Our Sixth Form community is passionately engaged with this initiative and we hope to expand this newsletter with exciting ideas and by inspiring collaboration.”

Year 13 student Jenna Edgar compiled the design of the logo for the newsletter.

Head of Communications at ‘Spotlight’, Abigail Dowell, adds: “The launch was a great success. Despite some technical difficulties, it was great to see so many people come and show their support for our newsletter.”

It will be shared monthly with other schools and year 11 students.
