Burnham fitness community raises over £720 at annual ‘Aortic Day’ in memory of local man

A popular Burnham-On-Sea fitness instructor has raised more than £720 for charity during her annual fundraising event held in memory of her late brother.

Victoria Taylor, owner of PSYCH Fitness – formerly Burnham Bootcamp – hosted her yearly Aortic Day on Thursday in tribute to her brother, James Griffiths, who passed away nine years ago on April 30th.

Victoria began marking the anniversary with a charity event eight years ago, choosing to support the Aortic Centre Trust, founded by heart surgeon Julien Gaer.

This year’s fundraiser featured a special evening fitness challenge alongside donations collected from PSYCH Fitness’ usual Thursday morning classes.

The evening saw the launch of a mini PSYROX Hybrid Race, a demanding circuit combining running, rowing, ski machine work and a series of strength and endurance exercises.

All time slots for the event sold out, with 35 participants taking part between 5pm and 9pm, either as solo competitors or in pairs.

Every participant received a custom-made medal, with prizes awarded to the fastest male solo, fastest female solo, and the top three duo teams.

Victoria said she was “overwhelmed” by the support shown by the community and extended special thanks to Amalgam Modelling in Bristol for producing the bespoke medals. She also expressed her gratitude to everyone who donated to the cause.

“Hosting Aortic Day makes the anniversary a little easier for me and my family,” she said. “It gives us a focus and lets everyone remember James together. As our PSYCH Fitness motto says: Stronger. Together.

The event raised over £720 for the Aortic Centre Trust.
