Burnham & Highbridge Tangent Club raises over £6,000 for British Heart Foundation

-

Burnham & Highbridge Tangent Club has celebrated a hugely successful year of fundraising by announcing it has raised over £6,000 for the British Heart Foundation.

At its AGM, held at Burnham & Berrow Golf Club, the news was revealed as members were joined by both the Immediate Past National President and the National President.

The club raised an impressive £6,285 for Tangent’s 2025/26 national charity, the British Heart Foundation.

A generous sponsor pledged £15 for every bag of saleable goods donated to BHF shops by Tangent groups, and Burnham Tangent collected more than 400 bags — generating over £6,000 in sponsorship alone, before the value of the donated items was even counted.

Outgoing chairman Judy Schroeder praised the dedication of members and the tireless efforts of Secretary Margaret Stewart. She said Burnham Tangent had contributed almost 9% of the national total.

“We are grateful to our members, friends and neighbours who have been so generous with their donations, as we could never have achieved this amazing sum of £6,285 without their support,” she said.

Alongside the national fundraising effort, members also voted to donate £363 to the BHF shop in Weston-super-Mare and £150 to Burnham Community Centre to support its Sunday Community Meals project.

Judy added that the meals have become a lifeline for vulnerable residents. “While this is just a drop in the ocean for them, we hope it will encourage others to contribute towards this important project.”

The meeting concluded with the traditional handover of office, as Judy passed the Tangent chain to incoming chairman Jan Birkett, who will lead the group for the coming year. Flowers and gifts were exchanged as members marked the end of a successful year and looked ahead to the next.

The Tangent Club is a UK-based social networking and friendship organisation for women, focusing on fellowship, fun, and fundraising for local and national charities.

Photographs from the event show Judy handing over the chain of office to Jan, National President Carol with the new chairman, and several members who helped drive the fundraising effort.
