Burnham‑On‑Sea’s Moose International Lodge 123 has raised hundreds of pounds for the town’s lifeboat crew following its annual President’s Luncheon, held this month.
The event, once known as the Governor’s Barbecue, has been reshaped in recent years following the fraternity’s move to the One Moose structure, and now takes place as a midday luncheon.
This year, fifty‑five members and invited guests gathered for the occasion, enjoying a freshly prepared two‑course meat‑salad meal served by catering manager Sandra and her team.
Special guest Jean Gardiner, National President of Moose International, attended the luncheon and was welcomed by Burnham‑On‑Sea President Rita Harris, who presented her with a bouquet during the introductions. After the meal, guests were treated to a lively performance from Weston‑super‑Mare singer Chrystal Bliss, who delivered well‑known songs from the 1940s onwards to warm applause.
With entertainment complete, the afternoon moved on to thanks for the volunteers and the drawing of the well‑supported raffle. Rita Harris said it had been a wonderful gathering, with great company, good food and superb entertainment, and confirmed that the event had raised £578 for her supported charity, Burnham‑On‑Sea RNLI.
She added that the accumulated funds will be formally presented next May during the lodge’s handover evening.
