Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge Town Council backs ‘No Mow May’ with wildlife‑friendly areas

-

Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge Town Council has announced its support for No Mow May, the national initiative encouraging communities to leave grass areas uncut throughout May to help boost wildlife and support struggling pollinators.

As part of the campaign, the Town Council will leave selected grassed sections within its cemeteries untouched for the month.

The areas have been carefully chosen to provide food sources and habitats for insects such as bees and butterflies, while ensuring the cemeteries remain respectful, tidy and fully accessible for visitors.

The initiative has been shown to increase the growth of wildflowers and nectar-rich plants, offering a vital boost to local biodiversity.

By taking part, the Council says it hopes to make a small but meaningful contribution to supporting the natural environment and promoting more sustainable land‑management practices.

A spokesperson adds: “Visitors are kindly asked for their understanding during this period and are encouraged to learn more about how simple changes can make a positive difference for wildlife.”
