Singers from churches across Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge are being invited to join rehearsals for a special choral performance next spring, as Our Lady and the English Martyrs Church prepares to mark its 60th anniversary.
The project will culminate in a performance of Marty Haugen’s ‘Tales of Wonder’ at the church on Monday 19th April 2027 — the same date the building was opened in 1967.
‘Tales of Wonder’ is based on the Old Testament story of Creation, before moving on to the actions of Jesus and how they connect with people’s lives today.
Director Peter Olsen says the aim is to bring together singers and instrumentalists from other churches in the area.
“Through this project we hope to bring together singers and instrumentalists from other churches, and hopefully form the foundations of an active network to call on each other for future projects,” he says.
Peter is a retired music teacher who has been an active church musician for more than 50 years, including serving as chair of the Arundel and Brighton Liturgy Committee.

Rehearsals are held on Monday nights at the church in Highbridge Road, TA8 1LL. The next session is on today, Monday September 28th, at 7pm, with a 7.15pm start. Anyone interested is invited to turn up on the night or contact Peter at TOW@abmus.org.uk.
A spokesman adds: “The first rehearsal produced a beautiful sound, and many smiles, a good basis for the start of a project together.”
