Burnham‑On‑Sea Community Centre was lit up with colourful ‘virtual fireworks’ as supporters gathered for the venue’s first President’s Dinner, held in honour of its much‑loved late president Ken Hindle.
Friday’s event, held at the centre in Berrow Road, took place on what would have been Ken’s birthday week and brought together dozens of guests, including Burnham‑On‑Sea’s Mayor, Cllr Mike Facey, for a sit‑down meal and live music from local group The Phogues.
Centre chair David Norton said it had been “a special evening held in honour of our late president Ken,” adding that the dinner marked an important moment for the centre as it continues fundraising for its new lift appeal.
The project aims to improve accessibility throughout the building and it was revealed that it has already passed the £50,000 mark with grants and donations.
After the meal, guests headed outside where Somerset Projections illuminated the building with a sparkling light display, creating a striking ‘fireworks’ effect to round off the evening.
David hopes the President’s Dinner will now become a regular annual event, celebrating Ken’s contribution while supporting ongoing improvements at the centre.
