Burnham-On-Sea community groups, schools and parish and town councils are being invited to sign up to Keep Britain Tidy’s ‘Great British Spring Clean’.

Sedgemoor District Council is supporting the nationwide campaign and encourgaing local communities to get involved between 22nd March and 23rd April.

“To help community groups and parishes, Sedgemoor District Council will be loaning free volunteer clean-up kits containing litter pickers and gloves,” says spokeswoman Claire Faun.

“Our Clean Surroundings Teams will then collect the bags of collected rubbish. The council have also ordered some special ‘Great British Spring Clean’ rubbish bags for organised litter picks.”

Litter is a huge problem across the UK, causing harm to the environment and wildlife, with councils in England having to spend more than £700 million on street cleaning services every year.
