A Burnham‑On‑Sea fitness instructor has completed an extraordinary 193‑mile walk from Coventry to Exeter in memory of her aunt, raising over £2,000 for Hospiscare.
Elaine Simmons, who runs Flexercise classes in Burnham‑On‑Sea and Highbridge, set out on the challenge to honour her Aunt Pat (Patty Evans), who was born in Coventry and passed away in Exeter last year after receiving care from Hospiscare. The route linked the two places that meant the most to her aunt, making the journey especially meaningful.
Elaine has now finished the full 193 miles and says the experience has been both emotional and uplifting, with her fundraising total already reaching £2,000.
Elaine says one of the most memorable parts of the walk was meeting people along the way who shared their own stories of how Hospiscare had supported them.
“I think my favourite part has been chatting with so many different people. Hearing their stories, how Hospiscare have helped them.”
She added that the kindness shown by strangers had been a huge boost throughout the challenge.
“The generosity of people has been enormous! Random people just coming up, chatting with me and scanning the QR code to sponsor me.”
For Elaine, the walk became a way of remembering Aunt Pat while giving something back to the charity that supported her family during a difficult time.
