Burnham-On-Sea fundraiser aims to provide uniforms for Kenyan pupils

-

A Burnham-On-Sea charity event aiming to help some of the poorest children in Kenya will take place on Saturday (April 11th) at Burnham Baptist Church in College Street.

Educate the Kids — the charity behind the well‑known Singing Children of Africa tours that have performed in Burnham many times — is inviting local residents to join them from 11.30am for homemade soup and bread, followed by homemade cake.

The fundraiser is being hosted by volunteers who have all visited the charity’s school in Kenya and witnessed first‑hand the extreme poverty faced by families in one of the country’s poorest communities.

The charity, founded over 25 years ago, works to break the cycle of poverty by providing education for children who would otherwise have no access to schooling.

This includes supplying uniforms, shoes and daily meals — essentials that enable pupils to attend school and build a future.

Saturday’s event aims to raise funds to buy new school uniforms for the 900 pupils currently enrolled. Volunteers will personally take the uniforms out to Kenya and fit each child during their next visit.

Local families are also being encouraged to donate any outgrown school uniforms at the end of the summer term, which the charity will distribute to children who desperately need them.
