Burnham-On-Sea Gig Rowing Club members have taken part in a regional rowing regatta in Clevedon.

They competed against teams from Bristol, Clevedon, Portishead and Porlock Weir during the event last weekend.

“For 14 of our 19-strong team of rowers and one of our cox’s this was their first ever regatta, and for one new member it was just her fourth ever row,” says a spokesman.

“We had members rowing who have hidden disabilities, along with a three-limb amputee.”

“We had some fantastic results, with a boat, our mixed super vets even coming in second.  Overall, though, it was a great introduction to our members to competitive rowing.”

“We are now all looking forward and planning for our own regatta in Burnham on Easter Monday.”
